Black Friday Deals Roundup

I am definitely not a huge fan of Black Friday shopping (the crowds tend to bring out the worst in me lol), but, sometimes the deals just can’t be beat any other time of the year.  I have compiled a list of my favorite stores that currently have a sneak peak of the items that will be featured for their Black Friday deals.  Honestly this is a huge undertaking to include every single Black Friday deal so I have compiled a handful of my favorite spots to shop frequently.  Without further adieu, here are links to my favorite Black Friday deals!

Target

This is pretty much a no-brainer for all of us.  Any place that provides a one stop shop is always a good place in my book.  The offers range from household items, electronics, and toys so there is literally going to be at least one item for everyone in your family to choose from.

QVC

Honestly QVC is pretty similar to Target, in my opinion.  They offer such an array of items and I plan to compile gift guides specifically for QVC since it’s pretty hard to narrow down the options.  I think we can all appreciate killer deals that are also met with the option to make 6 payments so that we can gift quality items without breaking the bank all once.

Nordstrom

If you’re a Nordstrom Fan like me, you won’t want to miss this!  We’re talking 60% off people!  I linked the women’s sale above, but, here is the men’s, kids, home, and beauty.  All I can say is, why doesn’t money grow on trees?!?

Old Navy

Old Navy always has some killer deals and I love that they’re offering some new discount all week long!

Zappos

50,000 items up for grabs…need I say more?

I’d love to hear if you have plans to go Black Friday shopping!  What’s your favorite place to go?

Ponte-Knit Pants and Wide Brimmed Hats

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 (similar)

Don’t get me wrong, I love to wear leggings and definitely wish I could wear them on the daily.  Unfortunately, I can only get away with so much at work before I get the stink eye for wearing items that can be considered loungewear.  This means I have to seek out pieces that are work appropriate and still comfortable.

Ponte-Knit pants are definitely a great alternative to those stretchy works of wonder while still keeping it work appropriate!  They are sleek, stretchy, and have the feel of thick yoga pants.  Not that I do extraneous activities at work, but, I’d pick these pants over traditional slacks any day.  Bonus tidbit, if you’re self-conscious about anything on the lower half of your body, these pants are very forgiving and flattering to all body shapes!  I paired these pants with a simple black tank top, a boyfriend sweater (to cover the bum), and this super fun wide brimmed hat!  This outfit is super comfortable and the sweater is an awesome way to keep warm during the next few months, or, if you work in a chilly office (like me) this is a great option to keep warm.

Have you tried Ponte pants before?

Inspiration Wednesday: Faux Fur Jackets

1 |2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Happy Wednesday!  It’s starting to get super chilly here so we’re beginning to move from hoodies and lightweight jackets to coats at this point.  I have to say, I’m really digging the faux fur (aka teddy bear) coat trend that’s happening right now.  I have selected six different options that range from cropped to trench, and understated to dressy versions.  I think that any of these can really pull those of you that are slightly skittish about wearing something a little bit “different” out of your comfort zone and you may just be pleasantly surprised!

Which one is your favorite?

How to expand your library with Book of the Month

If you’re anything like me and suffer from a sense of loss each time you finish a book and absolutely must find another book to dive into, then Book of the Month just may be for you!

I actually stumbled upon the monthly subscription to Book of the Month a few years back when I was actively participating in a book club and fell in love right away.  Not only has this company been around since 1926 (which speaks to how incredible they are), but, they are consistently showcasing new writers that I may not have otherwise given a second glance at in the bookstore – honestly it can be daunting to find “the one” in a sea of books.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pop onto their site and sign up for an account (there are a few different pricing options to choose from).
  2. Choose one of 3 different subscription options.
    – 1 month – $14.99/month
    – 3 months – $9.99/month, then $14.99 after the first 3 months
    – 12 months – $11.99/month
  3. Choose from 1 of 5 books featured for that month – there are always detailed descriptions of what the book is about to help you choose which one fits your style best.
  4. If you find more than 1 book that looks appealing, just add it on to your order for an additional $9.99…hence the reason why I have a stack in the photo you see above.  Clearly I have a problem, haha.
  5. Your book with ship by the 7th of each month.
  6. Shipping is always free!
  7. You can skip a month and cancel your subscription easily if you wish!

Here’s why you should consider giving Book of the Month a try:

  1. There is a healthy mix of authors.  You will see well seasoned authors and newbies alike.  My most recent order contained a 2 books from authors I’d already ready books written by, and 2 books from authors that are new to me.
  2. Each book comes with a handwritten note from the author which I feel is great personal touch.
  3. Each book comes with a bookmark so you will never lose your place.

Overall, I highly recommend giving Book of the Month a try.  I can honestly say that finding new books has never been easier, and some of the books that are showcased during the month have stretched me beyond my normal drama/thriller genres.  I definitely appreciate all that they have to offer and know that you will get enjoyment out of a Book of the Month subscription too!

This is not a sponsored post.  Book of the Month has no idea who I am.  This post contains 100% my own opinions about the company and the books they have to offer.  This post does contain a referral link which means each person that gives this subscription a try will result in me receiving a free book for my library at no extra cost to you.  If you do choose to click on my link and give Book of the Month a try, I am forever grateful for your support!

5 ways Dry Shampoo can save time on your daily routine

Let’s face it, we’re all super busy these days. I can attest that there are never enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I need to do. Over the years I have been able to master a few things in my beauty routine to reduce the amount of time I have to spend getting ready so that my time can be spend elsewhere. One of those routines is my hair.

I have “trained” my scalp and hair to the point that I only wash my hair once a week. I can honestly say that with the use of an awesome dry shampoo you can not only stretch the length of time it normally takes between washes, but, can help reduce your styling time.

Here are 5 ways you can use Dry Shampoo to save time on your daily routine:

  • Refresh those oily locks – Spray the dry shampoo directly onto your roots. If you spray the dry shampoo all over, you will ultimately weigh the hair down which defeats the purpose. By holding the dry shampoo 8″-10″ from your scalp and spraying in sections, you will ensure that any existing oil will be soaked up in all of your problem areas.
  • Instant Volume – Dry shampoo will give your style an instant volume boost. After you have sprayed your hair in sections and wait for a few minutes to really let that dry shampoo do it’s job, take your finger tips and tousle your hair. By doing this, not only will you revive your locks, but, you gain some instant volume. Bonus points if you flip your hair upside down and do this…warning…you may look like you just stepped out of the 80’s with ginormous hair.
  • Prep and Prime – Dry shampoo definitely give your hair some texture. Think of it like a primer for your hairstyle. If your natural hair is fairly thin, or, ribbon-like (meaning it doesn’t hold a style and falls out of up do’s easily) then dry shampoo will be your new BFF. With the added texture your hair will gain, you will no longer experience bobby pins wiggling their way out, and same goes for any hairstyle you do that day.
  • Gym Tag Along – If you’re the kind of gal that works out, dry shampoo is a must for your gym bag. Not only will it revive those sweaty tresses, but, will give them a a refreshing scent. Pro tip…try spraying your roots just before you work out to soak up the sweat while you get your workout on!
  • Preventative Maintenance – Use your dry shampoo on clean hair. I have found that when you have squeaky clean hair it helps to spray dry shampoo onto your roots just before bedtime. By letting the dry shampoo work it’s magic overnight you will start noticing that you can go longer between washes which will save you a ton of time each day!

No that you’ve got a few tips and tricks up your sleeve, you’ll be excited about experimenting with dry shampoo, and seeing for yourself how it can make your beauty routine easier and faster.  Before you know it, you won’t be able to live without it!

The Perfect Coatigan

Cardi-Coat | Swing Dress | Tights | Booties (similar)

I can’t resist a great deal so when Old Navy was having their friends and family sale over the weekend I couldn’t resist taking advantage of a great opportunity to not only add a few more pieces to my collection of clothes that seem to shrink for number of items that fit my new smaller size (not that I’m complaining), but, a few items for my family as well!  I had a vision of what items I was going to scoop up to include outfits for the four of us for our Christmas card this year.

I fell in love with this Cardi-Coat (I like to call it a coatigan).  It’s super soft, not too heavy, and is super warm without being bulky like a normal coat would be.  Plus it has pockets which is huge for me!  You can dress it up or down and is very appropriate for those of us that have office based jobs that tend to get a little chilly during the work day.  I would legit wear it every single day if I could!

I have been loving dresses lately and honestly I feel that a swing dress is super flattering no matter what your size.  This dress is incredibly soft, perfect for the holidays coming up if you prefer to shy away from brighter reds, is a great length (I’m 5’2″ for reference), and has long sleeves to keep you warmer during the colder months.

Did you shop the friends and family sale over the weekend?  What were some of your favorite finds?

Inspiration Wednesday: Travel Attire

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Whether you’re traveling by way of plane, train, or automobile, comfort is key!  Today’s post is a continuation of last weeks Wednesday Inspiration Post!  With the holidays sneaking up on us way faster than I would like, travel is generally a big part of getting the opportunity to spend time with those that mean the most.

I don’t know about you, but, I try to travel in comfort without looking frumpy.  I gathered a few items that would be perfect for any mode of transportation to include a little bit of everything!  Gibson x Living in Yellow just released some new pieces and I need all of them!  I paired a comfy outfit together to match with some practical sneakers (which come in multiple colors).  In the interest of keeping everything feminine I went with all pink hues.  I gave a second shoe option which are some sweet slides for those of you that hate having to untie your shoes in the airport – the slides are easy, cute, an functional!

I never leave the house without some kind of lip product.  Pretty sure a gloss or salve would have to be my top 5 must have items if I was ever stranded on a remote island.  This balm is an awesome option if you just want to hydrate your lips without adding a pop of color – bonus for it being in a portable container!

I don’t usually travel with my hair up for an extended period of time because the weight of my hair can tend to give me a headache when it’s all pulled up, however, it is important to always have a hair tie on hand at all times for “just in case” purposes.  Aren’t these scrunchies super cute??  I love that they are just as cute on your wrist as they are in your hair and would look super adorable with a messy bun.

The last item on the list is having the ability to read something on the go.  My sweet husband generally drives us everywhere and we love to listen to audio books while the kids get to play on their devices.  Although I love me some hardcover books traveling with them can be a hassle.  They get heavy and can really bog you down.  I love the Kindle Paperwhite because it’s lightweight, easy to use, and now can be used for Audible books which is huge for me!

What are some of your must have travel attire pieces?

Fostering Interests

Cardigan (similar) | Shirtdress (similar) | Tights | Clogs | Earrings

I’m sure I say this every year, but, I love the age my kids are at right now – don’t get me wrong, I definitely wish they were still tiny and squishy, but, I love that they’re becoming independent tiny adults.  Makes my mama heart happy to see my kids trying new things and enjoying life in general.  I never want to stifle their interests, instead it’s my job to foster their interests (unless that interest involves creepy crawly things and danger).

My son has recently become very interested in photography so my husband and I got him his own Polaroid camera so that he can take photos and get that instant gratification of a tangible photo.  So, Ryder asked if he could take pictures of me yesterday when I got home from work.  He grabbed my phone, opened up the camera app, selected the portrait option and away we went!  I have to say, he’s not too shabby at this photography business.  A few are a little grainy, but, I love them all the same even if they’re not “professionally” done.

He though it was hilarious to bark orders about poses I should do…including a dab or two per his request.  I may very well have rolled my eyes a few times, but, he was having a blast and it was so sweet to see him excited about the next shot.  I love that I can document things my kids have done here and share them with everyone because their accomplishments make me beam with pride.

He may very well be onto something and if he’s not careful, he will be my new photographer…sorry, husband!

Unwind – a Book Review

I have been on a role lately!  Honestly I’m kind of proud of myself for sticking to 1 book per week haha.  Being able to accomplish anything for yourself when you’ve got kids, a husband, and a billion other activities to do can be tough #amiright?

Based on what books I have reviewed so far, you can probably tell that I tend to gravitate toward “young adult novels.”  I am a fan of dystopian worlds and anything that involves a thrill.  This week I am reviewing a novel that does not fall short of any of those descriptions – Unwind by Neal Shusterman.

The description according to Goodreads:

“The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child “unwound,” whereby all of the child’s organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn’t technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state, is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.”

The description according to me:

First of all, I am excited that this is a series.  Unwind hooked me from the very beginning and kept my interest through to the very end…I will definitely be getting the series to see what happens next!  I personally listened to the Audible version which was narrated by Luke Daniels.  Based on previous experience, if you have a terrible narrator, you will lose interest in a book quickly so I feel like this is a key part of any Audible experience.  This book was narrated very well.  Luke changes his voice for each character so you can really engulf yourself in that world and keeps your interest the whole time.

I will give a bit of a warning though – if you’re sensitive to anything involving reproductive rights, adoption, and surgical procedures, this book may not be for you.  The entire book revolves around children fighting for their right to live once their parents have unwound them between the ages of 13-18, parents .  Although the books description doesn’t truly give any official details away, it certainly does give you that wide-eyed, horrified feeling doesn’t it?

After reading the first book in the series I was left in a ball of emotions.  I honestly had no idea how I felt other than it left me wanting more.  I was angered by some of the characters behavior, saddened by one of the “bad guys” being unwound (mostly because that is the only description of the actual events that occur during the unwinding and listening to his recount of growing up actually made me well up), and rooting for the “little guys.”  Unwind is very well written, well structured,  and you really get to know the main characters so investing in them is easy to do.

Although the entire plot of the book was built on is a very touchy subject,  it’s important to note that there is always hope to grasp onto (in the book and in life).  Between sheer determination, a community of people willing to help those being unwound, and the will to live, this book really contains it all.  Trust me when I say, this will not disappoint!
